Viking hinge and roller replacement in West Covina typically runs $240 to $480 installed, parts included. We stock Viking-compatible hinges and rollers on our trucks, so most jobs are done in a single visit. Most homeowners discover the problem when the gate starts dragging, squealing, or binding halfway through its travel, and by then the roller has usually worn flat or the hinge pin has started to oval out the bracket.

The hinge and roller set is what carries the entire weight of a Viking slide gate. When either component goes, the gate still moves, but it fights the operator every inch of the way. That fighting is what burns out Viking motors and strips drive gears, which turns a $300 parts job into a $1,400 operator replacement. We replace the hinge and roller before that happens.
Which Viking Models This Applies To
Viking swing gates use a barrel hinge welded or bolted to the gate post, while Viking slide gates run on tracked rollers that sit under the gate frame. The part you need depends on which gate you have, and mixing them up is the single most common ordering mistake we see.
For slide gates, most West Covina residential installs use Viking’s R-4 and G-5 series, which take a 4-inch roller with a sealed bearing. Viking’s heavier commercial SL series uses a 6-inch roller, and that 2-inch difference matters. Putting a 4-inch roller under an SL gate loads the bearing beyond its rating and the new part fails within a year. We match the roller to the gate weight, not just the bolt pattern.
On swing gates, the hinge barrel diameter is the spec that matters. Viking swing hinges run 3/4-inch to 1-inch pins depending on the gate leaf weight. The wrong pin diameter means the gate sags in three months, no matter how tight you torque the bolts. We stock OEM Viking parts when the gate is under warranty and quality aftermarket equivalents when it isn’t. The aftermarket bearings we use are rated to the same load spec as Viking’s OE part, but cost about 30 percent less. If the gate is still under Viking warranty, we install OEM so the warranty holds.
Note: Carver Gate Repair West Covina is an independent gate repair company. We are not affiliated with Viking Access Systems, and we make no claim to be. We do stock Viking-compatible parts and we know the equipment cold.

Signs Your Viking Hinge & Roller Replacement Is Failing
- Scraping or grinding while the gate moves. The roller bearing has started to seize and the wheel is dragging across the track instead of rolling. Left alone, it flat-spots and then the gate jerks with every rotation.
- The gate sags visibly at the latch end. On a swing gate, this means the hinge pin is worn and the barrel is egging out. On a slide gate, the roller wheel has worn down enough that the gate frame is riding low on the track rail.
- The gate jerks or shudders halfway through travel. That’s a roller binding on a flat spot. The operator is pushing against a stop-and-start load, which is exactly the condition that strips Viking drive gears.
- Whining or squealing from the low end of the gate. The sealed bearing inside the roller has lost its grease and the rollers are metal-on-metal. Spray lubricant quiets it for about two days, then it comes back louder.
- You have to push the gate manually to get it started. The hinge or roller friction load has climbed past what the operator’s start capacitor can overcome. The motor is working, but the gate is too heavy to move because the rolling parts aren’t rolling.
Any one of these is worth a call. All five together means the parts are already gone, and the operator is next in line.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In West Covina, Viking hinge replacement runs $150 to $260 per hinge installed, depending on whether we’re replacing the leaf hinge or the post hinge and whether the gate needs to come off the post to do it. Roller replacement runs $240 to $480 for the full roller assembly on a residential slide gate, track adjustment included. If the track rail itself is scored from running on a seized roller, we quote the rail separately before any work starts.
Every price we quote is written down and agreed to before the first bolt comes off. The number on the written quote is the number on the invoice. The work carries our full-year guarantee in writing. If that replacement hinge or roller fails inside 365 days, we’re back out for free. That includes parts and labor, no prorating, no service-call fee. That’s the Garrison Standard, and it’s how we’ve operated every job since 2008.
A worn hinge or roller on a Viking gate in West Covina is typically a 60- to 90-minute job when we have the right part in hand. We carry common Viking hinge pins, barrels, and 4-inch and 6-inch slide gate rollers on the truck, so most of our visits are one-and-done.

Hinge and roller replacement on a Viking gate is not high-tension work the way a garage torsion spring is. You are not going to lose a hand to a wound spring here. But the gate itself weighs several hundred pounds, and when the hinge pin comes out with the gate still hung, that weight has to go somewhere. Usually it goes toward whoever is standing under it.
What you can safely do is inspect. Get down at track level and look at the roller wheel. If it’s worn flat, cracked, or wobbling on its axle, the part needs replacement. On a swing gate, try to lift the latch end. Movement of more than a quarter inch means hinge wear. Those checks tell you what’s wrong. They do not tell you how to fix it safely.
If you’re comfortable supporting the gate with jack stands and you have the Viking spec sheet for your model, hinge and roller swaps are doable for a skilled homeowner. Most people we talk to in West Covina would rather have a background-checked technician do it in an hour with the right part on the truck than spend a Saturday fighting a 400-pound gate. Call (925) 268-7956 and we’ll give you a written price before we touch it.
FAQs
In West Covina’s climate, expect 5 to 8 years from Viking rollers and 8 to 12 from hinges. The dry heat and occasional Santa Ana dust work into the roller bearings and break down the grease, and that’s usually what kills the roller before the wheel itself wears out.
A sealed Viking roller bearing cannot be repacked or rebuilt. Once the seal goes and the grease escapes, the bearing is on borrowed time. If you catch a worn hinge pin before the barrel is egged, we can sometimes re-pin it. Once the barrel wallows out, the hinge is scrap. Call (925) 268-7956 and we’ll tell you which situation you’re in.
Most West Covina Viking hinge or roller replacements are done in one to two hours. If the track rail is scored and needs replacement alongside the rollers, plan for three to four hours. We give you a written time and price before work begins.
We stock common Viking roller sizes, hinge pins, and barrels on our trucks across West Covina and the San Gabriel Valley. For unusual or commercial Viking models, we can usually pull the part within one to two business days. We’ll tell you which before you book.

He grew up in Los Angeles and started in the trades with the sheet metal program at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College. Plenty of repeat work around South Hills Country Club, where the older slide gates tend to need rollers more often than their owners expect.
